2023 Drive Fest – Volunteers needed!

DRIVE FEST Sep 8 – 10 at CTMP

Drive Fest 2023 – We are putting the final plans together for Drive Fest next weekend and we can use a few more volunteers. Our display will include all 5 Divisions of CASC-OR: Autoslalom, Ice Racing, Karting, Road Racing, and Time Attack. Ideally we’ll have one person from each Division “on duty” at all times. To do this we’ll need 6 volunteers from each discipline. Have you got time to help out? We are hoping people will work half the day and then spend the remainder checking out the rest of the event. Free admission for all volunteers and a T-shirt. We have new banners and a much bigger space this year – come and help us out.

Our display is being organized by ST LAC’s own Pat Cyr – if you can help contact Pat directly for more details pcrrally@gmail.com.

For those of you that simply want to attend the event as spectators, CASC-OR has a discount code to save on the admission fee. BUY TICKETS HERE and use the discount code CASC20.

Gran Turismo: Cineplex August 25th

Gran Turismo is based on the unbelievable true story of a team of unlikely underdogs – a struggling working-class gamer (Archie Madekwe), a failed former racecar driver (David Harbour), and an idealistic motorsport executive (Orlando Bloom). Together, they risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world. Gran Turismo is an inspiring, thrilling, and action-packed story that proves that nothing is impossible when you’re fueled from within.

Starting August 25th at Cineplex.

CASC 2023 August Update

2023 August Update

Happy August everyone. It has been a few months since we sent the last broadcast message so the time seemed right for an update…

DRIVE FEST Sep 8 – 10 at CTMP

Drive Fest 2023 – CASC-OR will once again have a display at this event in September. This year we have been given space for up to 10 cars to be on display in the upper area by the CTMP Conference Centre. The plan is to have vehicles from every Division represented. That also means we need volunteers from every Division to staff the event.

This year our display is being organized by Pat Cyr – if you can help out please contact Pat directly for more details pcrrally@gmail.com.

For those of you that simply want to attend the event as spectators, CASC-OR has a discount code to save on the admission fee. BUY TICKETS HERE and use the discount code CASC20.

CASC-OR Board Positions

There are quite a few CASC-OR Board positions up for election this year. If you are interested in getting more involved please either contact a current Board member, or feel free to reach out to me directly.

Treasurer – Anne McCallum has agreed to stay on for another term, but will be pleased if someone else would like to “give it a try”.

Vice President – the Vice President’s role is changing. I’d like someone in the position that is ready, willing and able to take over should the President (me) need to reduce their time commitment.

Division Directors for Race, Autoslalom, and Karting are available. The existing Directors have served multiple terms and do not intend to stay on. Continue reading

Postponed: CRX Build

Hi all,

First off I’d like to thank everyone who made it out to volunteer, or race, at last weekends Peter Jackson VARAC races. It was a great turn out with great weather and great racing.

We are going to postpone the next CRX Build Party that was to be held this coming Sunday. We will now shoot for the following Sunday, August 20.

Finally, Danby has contacted the go-kart track in Smith Falls. It is looking more promising, however we are still awaiting for available dates. Once we have more information we will reach out to get that ball rolling.

August newsletter

Hello St Lac Members!

Wow it’s hard to believe today is the first of August. Many of you may be wondering what’s up with our planned karting event as we were aiming for a mid August evening event at Mosport. Sadly, I have not received a reply from their event manager after multiple calls and emails. I guess they must be very busy as you would expect a car clubs’ interest would be high on their prospective customer list. Anyway, I am about ready to toss in the towel and look for an alternative venue. Apparently there is a facility near Smith Falls so that will need to be looked into if we don’t have an answer from CTMP this week. Maybe when Roger (pictured running away from home) posts this on the website we will see some action as word of mouth is usually a good way of spreading news on the gearhead grapevine. Due to this delay we are going to poll you all again (later this week or early next week) to see if a weekend date in September is better timing wise for everyone. Rather than a Thursday evening event this month as the shorter day lengths are not in our favour as Fall approaches, and our prospective numbers were split in two for the previous tentative dates so perhaps a Saturday or Sunday afternoon makes more sense? We’ll see.

I want to thank everyone again who attended the CRX workshop last weekend as we made steady progress with the body prep work. We are scheduling another round of bodywork for Sunday August 13th from 10:30 until late afternoon.

If you have a secret love for the smells of bondo or lacquer thinner come and join us. The address is 657 Simmons Road and cool beverages and lunch are provided…nudge nudge wink wink.

Round four of St Lap IV is coming up later this month on the 24th. We had a smaller turn out than usual in July so I suspect we’ll be very busy with drivers in three weeks time. Having said that, it was a fantastic evening and all the lappers I spoke to enjoyed the benefits of a less busy track.

Lastly, we are still looking for volunteers for this weekends’ upcoming Varac one day event at SMP on Saturday the 5th. Here is the workers link to register: Peter Jackson Races volunteer sign-up. There are spaces available to help with the mock grid and paddock duties and if you are uncertain what’s involved please reach out to the club email and we can fill you in in more detail.

That’s all for now- stay safe and well. DC
