Keeping you up to date

Hello St Lac Members, I hope you are all doing well.  Last Thursday night’s inaugural ST Lap IV lapping event was well attended, and we were blessed with excellent weather.  It was great to see everyone in person and on behalf of our team of volunteers I want to thank all of the participants for coming.  It’s amazing as a Kingston based club that many of our regulars come from Toronto and Ottawa.  It was also great to see several individuals using passes where the pass holders were unable to attend.  Hats off to Dan for setting up this feature on Facebook and what a great way for members who cannot make all 5 events to utilize the transferable nature of the pass as it was intended.

Next weekend is the SMP Cup at Shannonville.  So far over 100 cars are registered. That’s a huge reflection on the efforts of all our members spreading the word that Shannonville is in a rejuvenation phase.  So, if you don’t have any plans for either Saturday or Sunday afternoon, come and join us.  Admission is $20.00, kids under 12 are free.   The Quebec touring car series grid is now up to 40 cars and, my alma mater, the F1600 grid is sitting at 23 the largest grid since 2007; and the GT grid is looking very strong as well. (Well done, Pat).

We are hoping our new shirts will arrive this week prior to the festivities, Ian Crerar, a long-time member, will have his band playing Saturday Night and all the volunteer crew are invited to the F1600 chili dinner in the paddock.  We are also presenting a cheque to the F1600 organizers for the Team Canada Scholarship for $850.00.  This presentation will be held at the last race event on Saturday at the F1600 podium – again a huge shout out to Chris Evans for his efforts generating this amazing donation.

There is also still time to volunteer if you are sitting on the fence – volunteers are asked to arrive between 7:30 – 7:45 as on track action starts at 8:30 sharp.  If you are busy on the weekend Friday is a test day and will have its own action as everyone takes to the long track to practice.

All the best and hope to see you next weekend-   DC

Picton don’t hurt me. No more. And other news

Hello St. Lac members!

Tomorrow, MAY 25th, is our first lapping evening of the season at Shannonville. We only have a couple of season pass spots remaining.  If you are new and on the fence come join us to check it out.  Drivers meeting is at 5:20pm at the Fabi paddock (side closes to the 401).  To get a wrist band you just need to complete the waiver.

If you are looking snag a pass from a member who is unable to attend you can check out the informal FaceBook group ‘St. LAC Lapping Pass’.

Unfortunately we have been unable secure the Picton airbase for this years autoslalom (autocoss).  The airbase, now owned and operated by Base31, has been home to one of the best autoslalom events in Ontario for the past 20+ years. This year, however, Base31 has come to the decision not to permit automotive events, citing concerns over tarmac degradation.  In light of this we will see if there is an opportunity to host some smaller events locally.  I, for one, would love to bring back autoslalom to the St. Lac area.

Finally – I have set up a public FaceBook group ‘St LAC Public Forum’.  The intent of this group is to have a public space where members and enthusiest can connect, post photos, advertise car-related events or sales, that sort of thing.  At this time this group is completely open and unmoderated.

If an unmoderated public forum isn’t for you, or you straight up avoid FaceBook, I invite you to check out the forum feature Roger set up on our website, under the ‘Discussion Forum’ tab.

That’s it for now,

St Lap IV begins next week, and more news…

Hello St Lac members.  It’s hard to believe but next Thursday is the kick off for St Lap IV, and as I write there are just two passes left so we are looking forward to meeting the newcomers and seeing our returning members.

Dan has sent the QR code link  for the SpeedWaiver to all the pass holders so please take a couple of minutes and complete the waiver in advance to help speed up registration.  As in past years we will be using the Fabi paddock  accessed by the service road located on the eastern side of the track.  Registration will be open at 4:45.  John Kinnear will be on hand for the racers who require an annual tech inspection and the snack bar should be open as in previous years. If you are needing a tech inspection please so up a bit early to allow for John to do his thing.

A huge shout out to Chris for coordinating the recent swag order.  For those of you who missed the short order window the club has purchased a small number of additional  long and short sleeve T-shirts that will be available for sale at our events.  In addition, thanks to Chris’ generosity, we will be presenting the Cdn F1600 scholarship fund with a cheque for $850.00 at the SMP Cup podium for Race #1 on Saturday afternoon on June 3rd.   This donation is the results of the race medical clinics Chris conducted in the early spring so on behalf of all the members well done Dr. Evans!

In addition I want to personally thank all the volunteers who attended the BEMC spring trophy races at Mosport early this month.  James, Bob, Ed, Jordan, Andrew, Sergio and Scott – a huge thank you as this was the first stepping stone towards our efforts to assist with volunteers for the SMP Cup weekend coming up in three weeks time.  Word on the street says we are anticipating a very busy weekend as the Super Production series from Quebec will be in attendance along with the regular CASC classes: Pirelli Super Touring (GT 1-2), Pirelli Grand Touring (GT 3-4-5), The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship and Formula Libre.  So if you are interested in amateur racing block off an afternoon to come and cheer on your fellow club racers. And if you are planning to volunteer please register at the following worker link on MSReg:

All the best everyone and looking forward to seeing many of you next week on the 25th to kick off the season.  DC

St LAC Swag 2023

2023 SMP Cup/TrackMaster 2023 series

Come one, come all – Worker Registration is now open for the SMP Cup being held June 3 – 4 at Shannonville Motorsport Park. CASC-OR is organizing the event so we don’t have a “club” to fallback on for volunteers – we need every clubs’ help to staff this event.

At the BEMC event last weekend, quite a few St. Lac members were training in the various positions needed to run a successful regional race – their plan is to build a team so that in the future they may be able to run the SMP Cup themselves – way to go St. Lac! Unfortunately, the team won’t be ready for this year so we’re asking everyone else to lend a hand.

Workers/officials/volunteers travelling more than 50 km to the event will receive a $100 travel allowance. In addition, we’re providing box lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Further, our good friends at Super Production Challenge are inviting all of our officials to a BBQ dinner Saturday evening, and CASC-OR is bringing in a live band to entertain everyone at the park (until dusk) Saturday evening.

You may have heard that we have created a new ‘designation” for our competitors this year – the Motomaster Track Master. Basically, it is a mini series consisting of the SMP Cup at Shannonville, the BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races at CTMP, and the OSCC Clabogie Summer Classic. Drivers that compete in all three events this year will receive Motomaster Track Master decals for the their cars and a patch for their driving suits. The overall points winner will be declared the Motomaster Track Master Champion. These same decals and patches will be awarded to any works/volunteers that work at all three events. You know you want one!
